Dara Khosrowshahi, the chief executive of Expedia Inc., has been chosen to lead Uber Technologies Inc., according to multiple reports.
Recode first reported that Uber’s board of directors had picked Khosrowshahi as CEO. He is likely to accept the job offer, although he had not yet publicly done so as of early Monday.
Uber had yet to confirm the news. “The Board has voted and will announce the decision to the employees first,” a spokesperson told Recode.
The decision caps a tumultuous search for a replacement for former CEO Travis Kalanick, who was ousted in June after a shareholder revolt following a series of scandals at the company. Earlier Sunday, General Electric GE, +0.78% Chairman Jeff Immelt dropped out of the running. Hewlett Packard Enterprise Co. HPE, +0.00% CEO Meg Whitman was said to be another top choice and spoke to Uber’s board Saturday, although she maintained publicly that she was not interested in the job.
Khosrowshahi is reportedly a compromise choice by the board. Kalanick had supported Immelt, but the venture-capital firm Benchmark, a major Uber shareholder, backed Whitman. Kalanick was reportedly angling to keep a significant amount of control with the board, a prospect that Whitman opposed.
